After Sandras onstage meltdown a few days earlier in Oberhausen, there was a strange atmosphere in the GA camp…. Everyone seemed far apart.

Updated thought Feb 2017 :

The main (good) memory i have of this date was chatting with Olaf before the gig. I was interested to find out about I.E.M.s as i realised so many bands had been using them for years & surely, that source could make for an interesting live recording if you could tap into it? Well, it’s not so straight forward as firstly, you needed a licence to use them. Then the different musicians have their own personal mix. I never did try to follow through with the idea (because of costs mainly) but it’s obvious i’m not the first person to think of this as over the years a bunch of I.E.M. recording of different bands have turned up. There’s some pros out there now. A typical example would be Iron Maiden Tokyo 2016. They used multiple IEM feeds + an audience recording for ambiance & it’s one of the finest Maiden boots ever !

As to my memories of GA at this time? Cannot really say πŸ˜‰

I love the Grosse Freiheit venue ! This was the first time i met Michel. We’d made our own travel/hotel plans etc. Also, as i got there early (hey, that’s rare for me lol) i also met a bunch of girls hanging around the venue. I guess that would be Diana, Elfi & some others. I’m sure someone took a group photo there, so would love to see that if anyone can send it to me. Someone else i met was Bill from America. He had a very special hat πŸ˜‰ Of course, i also met good old Rurik who i knew from the Guano Apes gigs. Ah this is something i love about travelling to different shows; you meet new friends along the way πŸ™‚

I met my friend Julia, who i knew via our love of Skunk Anansie, at this show. She brought her friend Laura along also. It was her birthday soon i recall. Well, with Henning being so cool, i was able to give the girls guest passes πŸ™‚ During this show the band jammed ” Candy Love”. It was a bit of fun for sure. Unfortunately, Dennis had an accident when a drum stick broke & went in his eye. By strange coincedence, Julias dad is a doctor, so he checked him out ! Julia has some fantastic photos from backstage, but, it’s not really fair to upload some of them lol (The band were already tired & there’s one of Henning where he looks like a zombie -sorry mate- & one of Stude messing around with yogurt lol

After the Highfields Festival we traveled onwards through the night to the Terremoto Festival in Hamburg. Waking up next morning, the first thing i see is Sandra looking out of the bus at something…that something was Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit , she’s quite a fan….& even rock stars can get star struck πŸ˜‰ I think it might have been his birthday as i recall someone giving him a video camera as i walked past to catering. I’m also pretty sure that this festival was Limp Bizkits only show in Germany this year, so, no doubt that would have brought in some of the crowd. Actually, it’s a fantastic line up here today ! Henning had given me an advance copy of the DVD & later in the day Sandra & her sister watched it on the bus. I was lucky to be able to meet Dave Grohl & Brian Molko & have a nice chat with Dom (Muse) about how they were doing in the States etc. I was already a Β fan of Muse after seeing them open for Skunk Anansie in ’99. My friend Fanny arrived later in the day so we both got to have some photos with the stars. We watched some of Guanos set from on the side stage then some from the photo pit. When everything was over, Fanny gave Henning a lift to the hotel he was staying at (The others took the bus back home). Next day i flew back to the UK. Driving home, my car exhaust partially came off ! IΒ used the pass band to tie it up to get me back home haha

Strange venue in that it was in like a factory. Also, the concert room was a few floors off the ground. Very industrial…turbinenhalle πŸ˜‰ The film crew were still around for this one. Interestingly, on the clip i posted, where Stude is after his beer , that’s from Oberhausen, after the gig. Then the next shot is in Hamburg πŸ™‚ There was also a record signing session in the “Centro” shopping centre. I didn’t realise it at the time, but, Jagermeister had a shop in there! I coulda got some cool merchandise πŸ˜‰ After this one there was a group photo of band crew etc getting some kind of award. Henning said i should join the photo ,but i just didn’t feel right if i’m honest.
