The “Front Row Crew” (Myself, Rob,Claire & Mel) met up for this one. Stayed at some university accommodation. The show was filmed for Scottish tv. A great gig it was as well. They did an interesting cover of “Don’t Let Me Down”. I seem to recall that after the gig, whilst hanging around, we saw “Big John” (of GMM fame ) leave the venue. Also i have a strange memory of Mel needing a pee & not being able to find anywhere to go….or did she ? πŸ˜‰

Garbage, Aerosmith, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, TFI Friday, Riverside Studios, London, 11-6-99

Not a gig as such, but it was a great experience to be able to get tickets for TFI. I think I applied for tickets before we went to Rock Am Ring, Germany. I can remember getting the phone call to confirm we could get tickets & the chap saying “…everyone’s coming out of the woodwork trying to get tickets as it’s such a good line-up…”. I think it might have been myself & Mel who got to the place first (?). Also remember Anthony Kiedis coming outside before the show and no one recognised him as he’d dyed is hair blond & it was short. Also saw Joe Perry going in. Also found out that the Chilli Peppers would be doing a show at Camden Palace later on. If my memory serves me correct, tickets were available via a competition on Radio 1 FM.

Here’s the song Garbage played :

Who’s the guy on front wearingΒ  the red top ? πŸ˜‰

3 days of rock in Germany. Some brilliant acts & some no so brilliant haha. We went on a bus trip with accommodation also provided a few miles away from festival. This was my first festival abroad since going to Germany in 1984. Things have changed some what πŸ˜‰ We queued for something silly like 12hours to get front row for Garbage. They played in a massive (15,000 capacity??) tent. It got so hot in there that there was moisture coming down the tent. Eeeewww! We had some trouble with a girl trying to push her way into front row….until she tried it with Mel & got a good kicking & words to the effect of “Fuck off you German Bitch” lol. Nowadays, the festival is so big that the “Alterna Tent” moved from a tent to a proper (big) open air stage. We were lucky to go to the festival before it got too big. I think Mel also did a bungee jump at this show. Oh yeah, we knew Rurik from the UK dates & i said to the others ,”I bet you i can find him”. Sure enough, i saw him walk by & we met up !

This was bloody cold. I met Rob here & was probably introduced to Claire & Mel tonight or was it in Doncaster? We also met “The man with the cheese” here. Rurik, had a huge chunk of cheese which he was nagging away at outside the venue. It’s funny what you remember! I think he was also named the “banana man”. (All very friendly though). I also recall they were searching for cameras etc upon entry. One of the girls had one & was wearing a hoody top. I suggested putting it in the hanging hood. It worked, only for they to stop her taking photos during the gig.

3 day event. Had a nice hotel only 10mins away from the festival.A great festival. Some fantastic acts. Page & Plant were brilliant. New Order were fantastic. Garbage were ok. Biggest disappointment was that Curve pulled out last minute. I’m sure that made someone less nervous about their performance πŸ˜‰

As much as i was looking forward to this show, it was a bit of a disappointment. Why? I thought their sound was atrocious. Normally, i would have gone to see them at Rock City, but, i was going through my “I hate Rock City” stage (yeah, i know, stupid of me). As it was, a mate went to R.C. & he also thought the sound sucked. Well, despite the crappy sound, i still really enjoyed finally seeing Garbage live.
