Garbage, Aerosmith, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, TFI Friday, Riverside Studios, London, 11-6-99

Not a gig as such, but it was a great experience to be able to get tickets for TFI. I think I applied for tickets before we went to Rock Am Ring, Germany. I can remember getting the phone call to confirm we could get tickets & the chap saying “…everyone’s coming out of the woodwork trying to get tickets as it’s such a good line-up…”. I think it might have been myself & Mel who got to the place first (?). Also remember Anthony Kiedis coming outside before the show and no one recognised him as he’d dyed is hair blond & it was short. Also saw Joe Perry going in. Also found out that the Chilli Peppers would be doing a show at Camden Palace later on. If my memory serves me correct, tickets were available via a competition on Radio 1 FM.

Here’s the song Garbage played :

Who’s the guy on front wearing  the red top ? 😉

I ended up going to this one as my mate Andy was having problems with his girlfriend, so, he offered me the ticket. At the time, i was in a pretty bad place personally, so i was really undecided. But in the end it was a case of “lets stick together when these women are fucking up our lives!”. If i’m honest, at the time i didn’t really enjoy the show. However, some years later i found a bootleg CD of the show that was recorded from the soundboard & i’m enjoying the gig now…just about 15 years later lol

Through a bit of luck i bumped into my old mate Dave Ling. He was there to do an interview with Chris. I told him how much i loved Loud & when Andy Farrow (Their manager from Northern Music Company) arrived, Dave asked if i could sit in on the interview & it was ok’d. That was cool & interesting. Back then, i had a camera that used film & took a few photos with Chris etc. Unfortunately, when i went to collect the developed photos, they told me the film had split down the middle & all photos were lost. Not only that, but, the same film had photos from Iron Maidens Fear Of the dark playback in Norwich. All lost. Gutted.

P.S. Dave, i’d still love to hear that interview again…
