Took train from Oxford to St Austell. A rare time i used a taxi (to the venue). I remember a bunch of pissed off Americans before the gig…pissed off as they thought Motley Crue were supporting (when in fact they only did the non UK European dates). Also recall there was some kind of trouble with someone who had a knife.

Tonight we got the extra track “Die With Your Boots On”

I’d been staying with my mate Neil the last couple of days. Before leaving, we had a fry up with black pudding, tates etc. I didn’t think it sat all that well…Travelled down from Sunderland with Neil to Hull (His hometown). Then we drove to Sheffield, where i met a couple of mates from Boston.

Tonight we got the extra track “Wrathchild”.

On the way home, i felt really ill. Me : “Chris ! Stop the car!”. After which i puked my guts up ! I’m probably the first person to puke up on the Sleaford bypass, which was being built at the time ๐Ÿ˜‰

Went on a bus trip. I remember i’d only started working this year & straight away i was asking for time off to go to a gig….that’s happened a lot more in the years since then ๐Ÿ˜‰

EDIT 5-19 : After all this time, I’ve found a bootleg of this show. I guess tape trading had it’s benefits (eventually) Shame they got the venue wrong though :

Maiden @ De Montfort was always a great night out. Don’t think i ever experienced a bad audience there. This was the “Piece Of Mind” tour. Nicko McBrain had just joined. I loved the start of this show, with a long intro & then pounding into “Where Eagles Dare”. Then straight into “Wrathchild” & ” Revelations”. Plenty of new songs played from the new album (& the right ones lol). On this tour i saw Maiden twice, but, i decided on the next one i would try follow them around the UK as much as i could….

At the time, Maiden were my favourite band. This show only solidified things for me! The energy up on stage, they’d got the front man they needed, the brilliant crowd. I couldn’t believe they kept coming back for encores. This show was the one i got a really sore neck due to headbanging ๐Ÿ˜‰ Maiden went on to be the band i’d see most live shows of…
