Seats in 1st rows were demolished.The guys from Anthrax were in crowd as the accident had happened in Scandinavia. Charlie Benante was in row behind me taking photos. Pretty sure he saw my tape recorder but didn’t grass me up.Good guy! 🙂
This was the first night of the 17 dates i’d follow on this UK tour. Recently i came across a lot of the hotel receipts, information, train times etc (Yes, i AM a hoarder) It’s amazing how different these things were back then, when there was no internet 😉 Here’s a sample of that old stuff :

I’ve never like the drive from Boston to Birmingham,but, i had to go to this show. So i drove to Nottingham & took a bus trip to Brum ! Brian Tatler jammed at this show.

I loved the Mayfair venue. A nice small club. One of the strangest memories i have about this show is a dickhead in the crowd wanting to show me his cartwheels ! Another cracking show by both Anthrax & Metallica.

This was a CRAZY gig. It was a wild audience. The penguins on security just didn’t know how to deal with everyone. A stand out memory is of a punk with a mohekan stood on stage,”flicking the Vs”,goading security. The tension in the air was amazing. This was the begining of a different type of crowd at gigs. Both Anthrax & Metallica were great(even though James had a standin on guitar). Strange as it sounds, it was nowhere near sold out. But the people in the know were there. It was obvious that Metallica were on the verge of becoming HUGE….& then the accident happened in Scandanavia…
